Kids need adults who care. Friends. Neighbors. Anyone who wants to join other community- and service-minded individuals to change children's lives.
That's why service is at the heart of what Kiwanis clubs do.
Kiwanians are part of an international network of clubs whose members want to make a different in the lives of children.
More than 450,000 Kiwanis members in 96 countries perform more than SEVEN MILLION HOURS OF SERVICE EACH YEAR and make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues.
Through these efforts, Kiwanis International lives up to its motto: "serving the children of the world."
Making an Impact Here in Spring Valley
Since 1961, the Kiwanis Club of Spring Valley has focused on the needs of children in our community.
We promote pediatric trauma prevention and child safety by giving out car seat identification labels and bicycle helmets.
We organize the annual Safety Officer Appreciation Dinner to acknowledge the work of the men and women who protect and serve our community. We adopt a section of the SR-94 highway to help spruce up our community, and we help at events in our community that need volunteers.
Kiwanis plays a special role in developing future generations of leaders through our sponsored programs at Monte Vista High School (KEY CLUB) and at Casa de Oro Elementary School (K KIDS). We sponsor student leaders at the annual Key Leader weekend camp and sponsor two high school ASB presidents at the annual Laurels for Leaders event organized by the San Diego Kiwanis Club.
We cook and serve pancakes at the Monte Vista High School senior class breakfast year-end celebration. We award four scholarships at the four middle schools in the La Mesa Spring Valley School District, two scholarships at IDEA Center High School and two scholarships at Chaparral High School.
In addition to service projects, we hold fundraisers to raise money for our scholarships and service projects.
Although our primary focus is on improving the lives of children, we love to volunteer to help meet other needs in our community (Meals on Wheels, community emergencies, veterans, for example). You name it, Kiwanis is there!
When Does Spring Valley Kiwanis Meet? How to Contact Us?
While some Kiwanis clubs hold weekly meetings in the morning, at noon, or in the evening, our club has adopted a "3-2-1" format. That allows us to spend more time "doing" and less time "meeting"!
1 = We conduct a monthly business meeting on the 2nd Wednesdays of the month for 1 hour via zoom (5-6pm)
2 = We pick a fun place to do 2 hours of socializing once a month, usually at a restaurant or at another Kiwanis club's event.
3 = We do a minimum of 3 hours of community service through one of our club's projects or helping another organization in need of volunteers.
3 - 2 - 1 ... that's the way Spring Valley Kiwanis gets things done!
